Wildlife

Finzean has a diverse ecology supporting over 135 different species of birds, from the reclusive capercaillie to resplendent eagles and red kite. In summer, the peewit of the lapwing and piercing call of the oystercatcher fill the air. There is a thriving population of roe and red deer, pine martens, badgers and red squirrels.

Conservation

Our conservation efforts have been recognised by the Heather Trust, from whom we received the 2014 Golden Plover award for moorland management. You can read more about this award here.

In addition, the Estate is committed to deer management and maintaining habitats for wildlife such as the capercaillie. We recently received the top accreditation from the Wildlife Estates Scotland (WES) initiative.
