Spring is coming
Spring is now just round the corner, or at least, we hope!
In what has been a very challenging winter so far, Spring can’t come soon enough.
From the start of January, when we had 14 inches of snow, followed by a thaw, we then experienced a month of rain with very little sign of the sun!
Challenging for everyone, but it has left the ground saturated which has set back tractor work on the fields by over a month.
Nature usually sorts itself out however, so given a few weeks of drier weather, we’d hope to be drilling the Spring Barley round the usual time of the first two weeks of April.
Meanwhile the Spring cows have started calving again and last year’s spring calves are being sold at the Livestock market at Thainstone in what is a buoyant trade, due to the scarcity of beef throughout the country, creating a perfect storm of supply v’s demand. Long may it continue!
